Bandung Alliance Intercultural School
BAIS is located in the mountains on the island of Java in the nation of Indonesia.
The country of Indonesia is a tropical country made up of more than 17,000 islands stretching 3,000 miles along the equator. Though Indonesia is the largest Islamic country in the world, there is also an increasing presence of Christianity. The government recognizes these religions as well as Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism as the six official religions of Indonesia. While it is illegal to proselytize, one can sensitively share their faith. There is a diversity of culture among the people of Indonesia. The group that is most prevalent in West Java, the area where Bandung is located, is the Sundanese people. It is situated in the mountains, 700 meters above sea level resulting in very pleasant temperatures year round. It is a city of about three million people and is known as an educational center for Indonesia as it has several universities.
Teachers who thrive in diversity and have a heart for adventure typically will do well at BAIS. The collaborative nature of the school fosters a culture of improvement - a desire to passionately master the craft of teaching. This also requires time off to be well spent. Discovering the vast archipelago is a favorite way to recharge during the well-earned time off during holidays and school breaks.
BAIS is located in the preplanned community of Kota Baru Parahyangan, about 15 km outside of Bandung. Bandung is in a purpose built facility, owns the property it is located on and is in the planning stages of adding an auditorium and a second sports court to the already well equipped campus.
BAIS offers an American style curriculum with an intentional focus of achieving international curriculum standards and benchmarks. BAIS offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses through the College Board at the high school level.
BAIS is on an American school calendar starting in mid-August around Indonesian Independence Day (August 17) and ends around the first week of June each year. For specific calendar details, please visit the school’s web site.
BAIS is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and locally accredited in Indonesia as an international SPK school PreK3 – 12.
