The International Christian School of Lima (ICS Lima) is a well established school serving missionary, diplomatic and international business families. Lima, a city of 11 million people, is the cultural center of Peru with world class museums and music venues. The school is located in the Miraflores district which is one of the most beautiful and safest areas of Lima. A few blocks from the school are incredible vistas of the Pacific Ocean. ICS Lima has the feel of a neighborhood school. Most of the students and teachers live nearby and walk to school. Classes typically have 12 - 15 students coming from over 20 nationalities. ICSLima has a caring and professional faculty who are committed to Christ and consider teaching as a ministry.

Job Summary/Objective:

Implement, supervise, and maintain a high quality learning environment for students within the curriculum and standards of the school.

Be a professional with the responsibility for implementing a curriculum. Inherent in this responsibility is the requirement of related academic knowledge, technical skills, and professional attitude, and judgment.

Have the ability to assess the needs of learners and to evaluate their performance. Be able to prescribe learning activities appropriate to student needs and to constructively evaluate these activities. Affect an optimum learning climate through appropriate and maximum use of all resources available and through the use of effective instructional and classroom management techniques.

Seek to integrate Biblical Truth into the instructional process and program by intentional lesson planning and through modeling a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

In addition to the requirement of technical competence, maintain an attitude and conduct which is consistent with the school's and Network of International Christian Schools' mission and policies of professional conduct. Follow building and school procedural guidelines and policy.

General Responsibilities:

1. Instructional

- Identify the needs of students through diagnostic procedures and relate instructional objectives to these needs
- Plan, prepare, and execute appropriate lessons, utilizing appropriate resource materials and activities
- Teach classes as assigned following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the administrator
- Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly plans and objectives, and more currently, through the use of Rubicon Atlas
- Affect student learning through mastery of the subject material by utilizing valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work
- Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally
- Be committed to helping students to develop their English skills and be aware of the ESL needs of all students
- Plan through approved channels the balanced use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
- Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good teaching environment
- Be prepared and willing to take on assignments outside of subject areas as the need arises
- Prepare and make available adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher

2. Non Instructional

- Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operating of the school
- Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to allow for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress
- Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of each student’s progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom
- Supervise extra-curricular activities, weekly duties, organizations and outings as assigned
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth
- Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude
- Provide input and recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school
- Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings, including devotional, in-service, retreat, committee, faculty, and PTO meetings
- Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature
- Contribute to the general improvement of the school program
- Maintain confidential information appropriately
- Prepare long range (yearly-monthly) and short range (daily-weekly) plans for teaching responsibilities that will be easily accessible to the administration and substitutes, and left in place at the year’s end
- Give as much notice as possible of unavoidable absences and cooperate in covering the responsibilities of colleagues who must be absent
- Follow all handbook policies
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration

3. Personal

- Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality
- Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration
- Respectfully submit and be loyal to designated authority
- Maintain a personal appearance that models cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and is in agreement with school policy
- Maintain use of proper, clearly articulated English in all forms of communication and require the same usage of students in all school disciplines, curricular and extra-curricular
- Recognize the need for good public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school constituency and the general public
- Place the teaching ministry ahead of outside or volunteer work
- Make an effort to appreciate, understand and utilize the uniqueness of the local Lima community

4. Spiritual

- The testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be of utmost importance in matters of personal involvement in the community and social life; each teacher shall make great effort to live a life above reproach, reflecting Christian character honoring Christ and conducive to the good testimony and name of ICS Lima and NICS
- Be affiliated with a local church and serve faithfully, being spiritually accountable to that body, under the leadership of that church's pastor
- Contribute to the unity of the team, uplifting other members and ministries in prayer, and communicating loyalty and support to the leadership
- Act as appropriate Christian role model in appearance and actions
- Pray and work toward the salvation of every student
- Communicate to the community through personal witness, school programs, service and activities, the gospel of Jesus Christ

Current state or provincial issued teacher certification
