School Background:
Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is a K-12 school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania located in the tropics on the east coast of Africa with a gorgeous view of the Indian Ocean. HOPAC began in 1994 by missionaries and quickly expanded. We now have just over 400 students from 15+ countries. We serve missionary kids, Tanzanian students (our demographic majority), and expatriate students, offering an international curriculum (Cambridge) taught from a Biblical worldview.
Job Summary:
At HOPAC we seek educators who combine professional expertise with a ministry-minded approach to their work with students. They should demonstrate a growth mindset, an eagerness to embrace a cross-cultural environment, and a commitment to developing their skills in teaching from a Biblical worldview. They should have a desire to serve and guide students in service, stewardship and leadership.
General Responsibilities:
- Develop strategies for meeting the identified learning needs of students, using creative and individualized solutions as needed
- Develop Individual Support Plans (ISPs) for individual students according to their needs
- Meet with teachers, parents and students to discuss and agree to the identified strategies
- Meet with individual students to help with coursework as needed. Meet with groups of students to address academic needs as they arise
- Maintain a positive environment in the resource room, conducive to student engagement and learning
- Maintain proper, positive rapport with students in order to develop nurturing and encouraging relationships
- Prepare summaries of classroom accommodations for class teachers
- Manage the day-to-day monitoring and data tracking of current learning support students
- Own and drive the real time identification and assessment process, and response rate for student challenges
- Regularly work in partnership with classroom teachers to ensure they are familiar and comfortable with the identified needs of the student and recommended accommodations and strategies
- Communicate with other school staff to identify the next steps needed in the referral process - Assist the Learning Support Coordinator with any other student needs

Qualifications:
3 years teaching experience
Bachelor degree in education or Bachelor degree in subject taught
Teacher qualification
Teaching experience in an international or cross-cultural environment
Specific Skills:
- Team Player and Adaptable
- Experience teaching the Cambridge Curriculum
