Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is a K-12 school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania located in the tropics on the east coast of Africa with a gorgeous view of the Indian Ocean. HOPAC began in 1994 by missionaries and quickly expanded. We now have just over 400 students from 15+ countries. We serve missionary kids, Tanzanian students (our demographic majority), and expatriate students, offering an international curriculum (Cambridge) taught from a Biblical worldview. 

Job Summary:
At HOPAC we seek educators who combine professional expertise with a ministry-minded approach to their work with students. They should demonstrate a growth mindset, an eagerness to embrace a cross-cultural environment, and a commitment to developing their skills in teaching from a Biblical worldview. They should have a desire to serve and guide students in service, stewardship and leadership.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Teach Economics and other related courses
  • Maintain the Christian ethos of the school within the classroom
  • Creating a learning environment in which each student in the class is enabled to work and learn
  • Instructing the students in accordance with the school curriculum and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Maintaining discipline within the classroom to enable students to work and learn
  • Creating and maintaining a classroom that is aesthetically pleasing and conducive to learning
  • Attending and participating in staff prayer times
  • Attending and participating in regular staff meetings, in-service trainings, parent consultations and back to school nights
  • Maintaining and submitting unit plans and assessment plans
  • Providing input into curriculum revision and unit plan development
  • Keeping records of students’ progress as appropriate and providing written reports each term for the parents

Qualifications:

  • 3 years teaching experience
  • Bachelor degree in education or Bachelor degree in subject taught
  • Teacher qualification
  • Teaching experience in an international or cross-cultural environment
